In February 2007, the International Journal of Aquatic Research and Education published a study called “Effects of Aquatic Exercise and Walking in Sedentary Obese Women”.  This study investigated the difference between the effectiveness of aquatic walking (group one) versus land-based walking (group two) on facilitating weight loss.  The study results were as follows:

  • Both groups’ total body weight, cardiovascular health, flexibility, strength, overall health, and quality of life significantly improved.
 
  • However, the aquatic walking group enjoyed slightly increased weight loss, flexibility, and attendance rates than the land-based walking group.
 
  • The aquatic walking group reported greater enjoyment of the aquatic exercise than the land-based walking group.
